The Friends of Prosper Community Library hosted the Holiday Reading Competition awards ceremony at the Community Library on Saturday January 7, 2012, seven weeks after the well attended November 19th Open House that started the Competition that featured Torii Hunter, endorsing the value of more reading.
This year’s competition showcased family involvement, with four of the five winners representing two families, and the fifth also competing against family members. It was Sarah Tucker’s 12,317 total pages of reading that set a new (unbreakable?) record for the high school category, and her brother Luke winning the 7th-8th title with 4,915 pages, barely beating out Drew Abercrombie’s 4,810 pages. Luke read the entire Harry Potter series. In the 4th-6th grade group, Morgan Ann Harris won with 2,750 minutes of reading, edging out Riley Fisher’s 2,589 minutes. The final two groups were won by John Paul and Joshua Hays, whose totals were enhanced by first grader John Paul reading to his younger brother and adding minutes to both their totals. The following table notes the first three contenders in each class.

Roger Flood thanked the local businesses that donated the prizes, including the Cotton Gin Café, Palio’s Pizza Café, the Main Event in Frisco, and the new Cinemark Theater in Frisco. The gathering of parents and children enjoyed refreshments and the opportunity to borrow more books from the increasing selection available at the Community Library.
